I hope you all had a wonderful April vacation! Over the break you should have received a brochure for the Burlington-Winooski Summer Program! We have a lot of amazing enrichment classes as well as academic classes to offer this summer, and would love to have you join in the fun!
This program is completely free to all rising 6th through rising 9th graders in Burlington and Winooski School Districts! For more information please check out the brochure that has been sent home and is also available on our website!

Reminder: No Afterschool on Friday April 21st!
Just a reminder that there will be no afterschool on tomorrow, Friday, April 21st. We hope you all enjoy a relaxing and fun April Vacation, and we will see you back at Afterschool on Monday May 1st!
Session 4 Brochure Available!
Session 3 activities are wrapping up this week and next week we will dive into focusing on HW Help as we wrap up the 3rd academic quarter!
Session 4 will begin on Monday April 10th and we have some great activities lined up for this Spring!
We will be offering Rock Climbing for the second time this year to give more students the opportunity to try it (Students who have not done Rock Climbing this year will be given preference over students who had the opportunity in Session 3. Session 3 Rock Climbers are welcome to sign up and join the waiting list)
We also are piloting a brand new program with the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center where students will be doing some work learning about the science of sailing for the first three weeks before they head out onto the water for the rest of the year!
Another new offering will be Vermont Adventures where a few students will explore different attractions of Chittenden County! Please note that the above activities are limited to a number of students and sign ups are first come, first serve.

Session 3 Brochure Available & Session 2 Updates
Session 3 of Afterschool will be starting on January 23rd and brochures have mailed home, made available online, and at school!
Please review that activities with your student and get the registration form in as soon as possible as activities are filled on a first come, first serve basis. If your student was not able to join a class due participation limit, you will be contacted.
Session 2 ends this week and next week will be focused on HW Help!

Just a reminder that we will not be having afterschool on Thursday, December 22nd. We will return to regular afterschool programming on January 3rd.

Session 2 Brochure Available!
We are in our final week of Session 1 Activities and will move into a week of HW Help next week to make sure our students finish their first quarter on a strong note!
Session 2 activities will start on November 7th and go until January 13th. The new brochure has gone home to all families and should arrive in your mailboxes this week. The Session 2 Brochure is also now available on this page under files in the right column.
Please have your students turn in their registrations by the end of next week. Some activities are first come first serve and you will be contacted if an activity is full and your student cannot participate.

EMS After School Welcomes You Back for the 2016-2017 School Year!
I hope you all had a great summer full of adventures, where you got to try something new and relax!
We are looking forward to a great beginning to school year and our after school team can't wait for another great year! Below you will find some important information about the start of EMS After School and Session 1 activities!
We will be sending home Session 1 registration packets in the folders that our students receive on their first day of school. All of the need to know information can be found there. The registration form will also be available online to download. On September 6th, we will be offering a week where only homework help is offered, as an opportunity for students to get their homework done, meet our After School team, and ask questions about Session 1 activities before they register. On September 12th, Session 1 activities begin and continue until October 28th. Session 1 will have some of our most popular After School classes returning, along with some new activities that we can't wait to share with you!
Just as in past years, our program is drop-in friendly for most activities where all students are welcome to join at any time, with the exception of the activities that require continued participation or have a participation limit, which is indicated in the activity description.*
*We do require a registration form to be submitted within the first week of a students participation if they are joining activities partially through , so that we have necessary contact and emergency information on every student in our program.
We are looking forward to the start of a brand new school year and can't wait to see your students smiling faces on their first day!

Thursday June 2nd is the Last Day of After School
Our final session of After School at EMS is coming to a close on Thursday afternoon! Thank you all for an amazing first year with EMS! I have loved being a part of this wonderful community and look forward to returning in the fall with new activities for all of our returning and incoming students! I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I hope to see a bunch of our students in our summer program over at Hunt Middle School, starting on June 20th.
Reminder: There is no After School on Friday June 3rd, and all next week.

No After School Tomorrow 4/15/16
Just a reminder that there will be no After School programming tomorrow afternoon, 4/15/16 as it is the Friday before April Vacation. Regular After School programming will start back up on Monday April 25th.

Babysitting Class Schedule Change
Just wanted to let you know that do scheduling difficulties, we will now be offering the SafeSitters Babysitting class on Tuesdays from 3-4:30, instead of on Thursdays. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We will be sending an email to students who have signed up for the class to make them aware, as well as making an announcement at school today and Monday.

TODAY: After School Ending at 4:30, Students Must Leave Building by 4:30
Hi EMS After School Families,
We will be closing the EMS After School Program at . Edmunds Middle School will be closed at 4:30, and students will not be allowed to stay in the building. The Burlington Police Department has issued a traffic and parking advisory for Burlington this afternoon in light of the visit by Donald Trump and planned protests. Parts of Main St. and side streets will be closed. It is imperative that you make plans to pick up your students no later than and we encourage families to carpool to pick up students to reduce the impact on traffic.

EMS After School Brochure & Sign-Up Form

New Site Director!
Alyssa Church-Smith is a UVM alumni with bachelors of science degree and a background in sustainability education. In her spare time she loves to cook, go rock climbing, and crafting about, always looking for new projects. She has worked with students of all ages and can't wait to become a part of the EMS community! She is looking forward to bringing a staff team together that will help foster a program where all students and staff feel comfortable to explore themselves and grow both in their learning communities and in the larger global community.
